Wonderful story of friendship, adventure and a sense of place. My toddler and I delight in this story night after night; we find ourselves quoting it during the day. Holly Hobbie really out did herself with Toot and Puddle, looking forward to reading more of her work in the future!
We received this originally as a gift for my then year-old daughter. The sparkly snow on the front cover was very attractive to her as a baby. Now that she's two she still loves it and requests it often as a bed-time story. We have given this as a gift to other kids on their birthdays, with great reviews. All the Toot & Puddle books are great, but this is a particularly good one to start with because it's shorter and less wordy than the others. Plus it features planes, trains, buses and bicycles, which are fun to talk about with young toddlers. It's also, by the way, a great book to give if anyone in the house speaks French or can fake it to funny effect, as Toot winds up in Coucou Poche, Provence."Wish You Were Here," about plants and being sick, or the first Toot & Puddle, which has monthly postcards from Toot, have become more interesting as my daughter gets a little older. Also take a look at Llama Llama Red Pajama, another top favorite.
I bought this book for my eldest daughter (college age and a journalism major) and for my youngest daughter (first grade.) My college girl travels the world like Toot and my baby girl stays home (like Puddle.) And of course, like Toot and Puddle, they miss each other terribly. So, together, they read the book when my "Toot" is home for a visit and it helps my "Puddle" to understand why my "Toot" keeps leaving and that she will come back. The story shows that even though Toot leaves to travel, he still cares for Puddle and that he does come back home. My eldest also enjoys the art work (she is also an art history minor) and the well written story and my youngest just enjoys the book.
I adore this book. I still get a little sniffy at the end. It's a great story of two friends who are very different but they appreciate each other differences w/o judgement. It's a great month by month thing too since each page is another month. It's very sweet. And the art work is fantastic!! I have given this as gifts to friends - especially ones with siblings. May we all celebrate each others differences and just enjoy each others company. But the lesson is subtle. The real story is just about two friends having different adventures. A 'must have' book. A classic.

This is a favorite children's book of mine. The illustrations are absolutely fun and sweet, and the characters silly and relatable.
I read this tonight with my kids and the story itself was adorable --- what I could read was cute, anyway. The print was insanely tiny and the little postcards were almost impossible to read. On the Kindle, there's no way to make the print larger either. So while I'd recommend the story, I would absolutely NOT recommend getting it on the Kindle.
We love “Toot & Puddle†in our home. I think we almost every title in this series. They’re just so enjoyable.
