I've never read a book by this author before. But when I got to the end I immediately purchased book 2. This series is not only gripping for its story but also provides insight into the Amish that I've never found in other Amish stories . I love the Amish genre read many books. I admit to being tough on riders that do not do their homework as far as knowing the culture at the various Amish groups . With Miss Griffin's book One does not have to be concerned because she was Amish and it shows that she misses her family and browns from that period of her life . But it also shows what the negative side of being Amish is likE. What is truly remarkable is the Indian aspect in this book. It is something I never considered and once introduced , understanding that the Amish seek for no one to stand out, you can imagine how an Indian or half Indian child would be treated. The writer inserts historical facts and much insight into the Amish life that makes this book a true standout not only as a novel but as a learning tool for discovering more about the Amish . After I finish this book the very first thing I did was to purchase the second book .

I liked this one, but found it to be a whole lot of reading to get to the part that was listed as being about the Amish and the Indians and what happened to Hannah. Ended much to abruptly. I don't know if there is a sequel and we find out what happens after the raid, or it was a teaser for a second in the series. Otherwise it was an entertaining read. I just wish it would not be advertised to be something it was not. I don't like cliff hangers.

This is not a glorified romance but a story built on facts! I encourage you to read it! It will change your view of what part the white men had in the brutalizing of Native Americans! So many times people rationalize why it happened and why it had to happen! There is no rational for it! As a white Christian woman I have never, even as a young girl, understood Why white men always feel they are superior to other races of mankind!Jesus was NOT WHITE! He was a man of unknown color but of Middle Eastern origin through his mother.Sorry about my soapbox moments but it is what I truly believe! Please read this book!

Liked this Amish novel based on historical events, adding some fictional romance to this storyline makes a great read. This story made me get the tissues out, which gets the five-star rating. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

On the Winds of Change (Amish Historical Series Book 1)The story is well done and engrossing, though the novel needs an edit. The writing could be good if the author learned the rules of the road--how to punctuate, in particular. The story works well, however, and the historical context and notes are educational. The sentiments expressed are touching and various parts of the story are quite emotional. The characterizations and settings are well done.

1st there are a lot of typos. Too many sentences with a word typed twice (nineteen nineteen-years old or back that that away); not using correct spelling of a word (smile when it should be small); Happens a lot - even though you can still read the book & understand. Just frustrating with all those typos.2nd - This is a Historical during the time the country was giving away land to those who wanted to go west. In this story, it is about a group of Amish who leave their community & friends to go West and prepare for other Amish moving to the Americas from Germany. - Hardships, a marriage, heartache when the Natives kidnap a daughter (a young bride), and her brother.3rd - I really enjoyed the historical facts given at the beginning of the chapters. But I am like some of these Amish - just who are the elders that they should determine the 'rules' of the Ordnung & why different Amish groups have different 'rules' ----

Wind some believe is the breath of God for God breathed life into human beings. This story allowed the reader to catch a small glimpse into the life of the one particular group of human beings - the Amish.I found the historical references as well as religious references to the Amish to be interesting and helpful in understanding what is behind this group of people.Character development was strong as was the overall setting of this historical novel. If you wish to learn some of the nuances of Amish life, I recommend this novel.

I was surprised at how the Amish would not protect their families from harm. They just let the Indians take their children & wouldn't fight for them. I don't understand some of their beliefs, like shunning as a means of punishment for little things. I lived near some Amish in my home town & never knew much about them except the cheese was great & the furniture was beautiful. We bought a lot from them. They lived in Mansfield Ohio. I loved to see their horse & buggies going down the street. Never looked at them as odd though. Thought they were cool at the time. I was young then, just a girl. But now after reading about them, I know more about them.
