I have previously used walking bass lines in my playing, but it never really sounded the way I wanted it to. Then I got this (Kindle) book and in a very short while I was successfully playing the bass lines and getting the sound that had been previously eluding me. Martin's presentation of this material is straight forward and takes the complexity out of the process. Just follow each step and you will be playing jazz chords with a walking bass in no time. This book also comes with audio and video materials that are very helpful. Highly recommended for all levels.
This new book from Martin Taylor continues his tradition of passing on his musical expertise to all. Martin's musical approach to enhancing guitar arrangements with creative and interesting baselines is clearly taught throughout this book in a very easy to digest form, building from the simple to the complex, and with great examples and exercises to help all players get these techniques under their fingers and into their ears. The approach to this material also makes learning fun and musical throughout the process.
This book is simply incredible! This is a very comprehensive instructional book for learning to play jazz style guitar. (Of course all of the concepts apply to any style of guitar playing.). It's easy to use with standard and tablature notated examples. It starts at a very basic level. You can move at your own speed and let your interest take you as far as you would like. The sky is the limit. Martin also explains jazz harmonic theory fully and clearly without any mysterious or difficult chord alchemy. This is a fabulous book from a great performing artist and teacher. It's a must!
Great book. Explains everything you ever wanted to know, building step by step on a solid foundation up to more advanced techniques. I've been able to walk bass and chords reasonably well for many years but the subtleties Martin teaches will finally get me to the next level.
What a great book. Martin breaks down the concepts of walking bass to the very basics and works up from there to much more advanced bass lines and chord progressions. There’s something here for players of all skill levels. Well done!
I've attended Martin's retreats and am impressed with how easily he can tell you goes on in his head as he's being creative. Now a small price of that is documented in this book - dont pass up the opportunity.
It's not really fair of me to write a review of this book, since I am a BASS guitar player. I bought this book by misinterpreting the title as applying to my instrument. I suppose I could get some use of it, but all the music is written in the treble clef!! Perfect for GUITAR players. But BASS guitar players speak a different language. I'll give the book to my son, who IS a guitar player.
As usual, Martin share a large amount of knowledge and experience in this subject.Many examples, and so well sistematic aproach for the guitar player.A must have book for everyone that love this amazing complement in jazz guitar music
