My sister loves this book. I read it and its pretty cool, the exercises are planned with all details , 5 stars

Not what I had in mind. . a lot redundant information. . not super pagan-y or spiritual. Lots of crystal nonsense.

I got this as a gift for someone who is a mama and a witch, but I didn't realise this book had so much writing for new mothers.

I had really high hopes for this book but most of the information in it is very basic and general. I would really only recommend for readers who are new to earth based spirituality.

This book was wonderful, I just wish it focused more on motherhood in general and not so much on pregnancy and birth and the "new" mother. For women like myself who have been a mother for almost a decade, I would have found more use out of it if there was a wider focus on motherhood. It is super informative and offers genuine, meaningful techniques that I think a first time mom would greatly benefit from.

Gave this to my daughter in a pregnancy care package and she's really loving it. It speaks to her creative, spiritual and curious nature perfectly!

This cheerful, good-hearted book is co-authored by the author of The Modern Spellcaster’s Tarot and a clinical massage therapist. These complementary skills sets combine for a practical tone and a wealth of common-sense information about health and wellness. In addition to spiritual practices and folk magic techniques for taking care of a mother’s body, the book includes illustrated yoga poses, suggestions and warnings for uses of herbs and essential oils, simple recipes, and more.Since the book’s title does not mention pregnancy explicitly, I was surprised to find that over a third of the chapters are about conception, pregnancy, and birth. The authors do emphasize that adoption is a wonderful way to bring a child into a family, but unfortunately the book does not include any spiritual or magical practices relating to the adoption process, becoming a step-parent, or any of the other ways that women become mothers without being pregnant themselves. This extended focus on pregnancy may be alienating or simply irrelevant to non-birthing mothers.Another surprise for me was how limited the material on parenting was, especially with regard to parenting older children. The book gives a fair bit of attention to welcoming, feeding, bathing, and comforting infants with magical intent, but the needs of older children are only considered in a few chapters. The only chapter entirely about older children is short and mostly about crafts. Most of the remainder of the book is filled with self-care practices: techniques to relax or energize, build the positive energy of the home, and dress for positivity and confidence.I found myself enjoying Witchy Mama most in the chapter on “Welcoming Baby,” where the authors describe traditional folk magic techniques from around the world and then suggest similar practices inspired by these techniques. Of all the chapters, this one felt like it most lived up to the promise of “Witchy Mama”: earthy, practical techniques focused on luck and protection and grounded in traditional ways of thinking about magic. I was least pleased by the book’s many lists, which provide shallow and sometimes outright inaccurate information: rigid lists of dream symbolism, color correspondences, and goddess “archetypes.” As a religious witch, I found the confusion between “archetypes” and “deities” to be especially problematic and appropriative. While “Mother Goddess” might be reasonably considered an archetype, the deities of the world’s religions are not mere symbols to be employed in ritual based on a two-line description. I was embarrassed by the suggestion that the reader call on African, Mayan, and other indigenous goddesses with so little context. That brings me to the biggest problems with Witchy Mama: its implicit assumptions about the reader. I am a member of its target audience: a middle-class, white, work-from-home mother and witch with a child I gave birth to myself. Yet I often found myself rolling my eyes at this book. For me, magic is something I turn to in times of necessity, especially when my family is in need or under threat. Although Witchy Mama contains some spells and charms for pain and healing, overall its approach to magic is more like a pleasant hobby than an essential tool for life. As a busy parent with an active child, I can’t imagine taking the time to dress myself daily in magically appropriate colors, or to decorate to improve the energy flow of my bathroom. The book’s assumption that a mother has time, energy, and money for its many gentle, whimsical practices was off-putting to me. I felt that a reader in a less privileged position than mine might find the more time- and resource-intensive ideas patently ridiculous.Where are the practices for mourning a miscarriage or abortion, or a spell to attract a birth mother for an adoption? Where is the charm to help you on the heart-breaking day that you have to return to work and send your infant or toddler to daycare? Where are the prayers to help a mother cope with a child’s major illness, or the spell to cast during a month when the family might not make ends meet? Witchy Mama suggests that the worst challenges mothers face are fatigue, a drop in sex drive, and the occasional kid nightmare or boo-boo. It does not paint a realistic portrait of twenty-first-century motherhood.Although I did not find much in this book that was of immediate use, Witchy Mama’s rosy presentation of motherly magic may be enjoyable for some first-time expectant mothers, especially those with little experience with witchcraft. In general, however, the book may be best suited for the new mother’s mother or best friend—they’re the ones who might have time to use it!

This book has some wonderful advice and recommendations for first time and new moms as well as moms like myself who have been parenting for a while now. Even if this is not the path you normally follow there is sound, promising and inspiring ideas in this book. I personally would purchase this book as a gift for another like minded mom to be, as well as friends who have been moms for years. I was very impressed with this book.
